A person wearing a black short sleeve shirt is smiling and signing to someone while a person on the left with short brown hair, glasses, and black top looks at them.

English Language Institute

The English Language Institute (ELI), a unit under the School of Language, Education, and Culture, provides an English as a Second Language program for American and international deaf and hard of hearing students. Bilingual instruction in both American Sign Language and written English provides a multicultural environment for ELI students to achieve academic, professional, and personal language goals.

Have you been recommended to take the ASLPT?

ASL placement tests (ASLPT) provided by 91福利导航 utilizes adaptive testing to place students into appropriate levels of ASL courses. The ASLPT are administered and scored automatically and this process ensures greater accuracy in course placements of test-takers.

The ASLPT assesses comprehension of ASL grammar, production, and semantics. Test-takers are able to see their score immediately upon completion of the test.

FAQs

Examinees will begin the ASLPI scheduling process via .
The general fee for the ASLPI is $165.00.
The ASLPI is a fee-for-service, therefore the fee cannot be waived. The fee can be covered by someone else (a third party payor). That information is provided in the Registration Form.

Direct Connect via Zoom: The majority of examinees are utilizing this testing format. Examinees can take the ASLPI from any location, as long as they are able to adhere to the Pre-Interview Checklist requirements. See for detailed information about the space requirements and connection process for testing. If an examinee does not have the required space / technology for this format, we offer the format below.

Proctor Connect via Zoom: An examinee can have someone else (Proctor) handle the set-up for the testing space. The Proctor will establish the testing space and handle the connection process on test day. The Proctor will ensure the evaluation adheres to the system process, procedures and protocol. The Proctor also ensures the evaluation is not recorded, observed or interrupted. Non-signing Proctors are able to serve in this role.

Gallaudet On-Site Testing: There is a testing room located on the 91福利导航 campus in Fowler Hall. For examinees who are local and need a testing space, the evaluation can be scheduled in this space. The evaluation will still be conducted via Zoom.

All ASLPI results are distributed via email, regardless of the testing location. Examinees will receive the result directly, unless other arrangements have been established for a specific group of examinees (e.g., result is sent to the Administrator for the group).

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact ASLPI.
