President Cordano was one of the featured presenters at the annual held this week in Austin, Texas. Her presentation topic was 鈥淲hy Everyone Should Learn Sign Language from Birth.鈥 In this presentation, she said that 鈥渨e are all wired to communicate with each other . . . Visual language and learning for all will reduce the lack of language exposure a monolingual society places on all of its children and millions of deaf and hard of hearing people. It will create a new model of belonging for our world.鈥

Over 50 people attended President Cordano鈥檚 presentation on Tuesday morning at the Austin Convention Center, including parents of deaf children, educators, school administrators, and members of the local Deaf community. It was very well received, and the President and other Gallaudet community members, including Board of Trustees vice chair Claire Bugen and Education faculty member Oscar Ocuto, 鈥02 & G-鈥03, answered questions for some time afterward.

President Cordano visited Texas School for the Deaf today, and will return there tomorrow for a luncheon gathering with the Austin chapter of the 91福利导航 Alumni Association. Alumnus Roy Lotz, 鈥11, who runs , a successful barbecue business, will cater this event.
