Megan Majocha, ’18, is nearing completion of her Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University, in the school’s . She also works with the National Institutes of Health through the Georgetown–National Institutes of Health Graduate Partnerships Program. She has recently been featured in the media, first in a four-minute segment by Hiba Ahmad on , and then in a , a weekly scientific journal from the United Kingdom. 

In the Nature interview, Majocha describes matter-of-factly the ongoing challenges she and other Deaf scientists face in developing and disseminating the ASL signs they use in their day-to-day interactions. “All of this has been a lot of work. I would love to have the chance to focus solely on my research, but I’ve been juggling my time between research, creating signs, working with my network of interpreters and everything else….It’s so much to manage, sometimes I feel like I have earned a PhD in linguistics, too.â€
