how our semester had been going, we couldn’t put it more simply.

Allow me to take you back to the beginning of the semester.

Home.

It can mean many things to different people.

Home can means many things for us.

It is hard when you feel home in an unfamiliar space.

And, then

I saw a sign.

If only my heart would believe this,

to just find the courage and take the leap.

Our fears can make us run in opposite directions.

And, oftentimes to nowhere.

It is up to me to decide how I want to do this.

Then this happened.

I鈥檝e learned only you can write

your chapter, your story, your own experiences.

How can I sum up my experiences?

I love my classes.

I鈥檝e made friends I know will be lifelong friends.

I’ve found my home at Gallaudet.

This place is teaching me to embark on my own journey.

Looking back, I do know one thing’s for sure.

I don’t know what the next few years will look like.

But I do know I want to be here.

The questions you’re

grappling with today are not so different than the questions

that motivate much of the world, especially at this moment in our history.

For many, the pandemic upended not just the way we live our lives,

but the way we think about the lives we’re living.

People are increasingly asking

big questions of themselves

What do I really want to do with my life?

Who do I really want to be?

At the heart of it, I think, is

one of humanity’s most essential questions.

What does it take to build a life that provides

meaning and fulfillment?

And the thing about it

is that no one can answer that question for you.

And that includes me.

There’s no iPhone feature that can come to the rescue

AI is good, but it’s not that good.

Still,

I have one important piece of advice I want to share.

So important that it’s

the only piece of advice I’m going to share today.

And that is this

Whatever you do, lead with your values.

By leading with your values,

what I mean is that you should make decisions big and small

each and every day based on a deep understanding of who you are

and what you believe.

Opportunities aren鈥檛 limited to just the classroom聽 – there鈥檚 so much more outside of the classroom.聽

I know I can鈥檛 get this experience anywhere聽 else. Only at 91福利导航.聽

Why did I come here? For a real college experience聽 that will prepare me for life beyond college.聽

For example, I can lead in student organizations鈥β�

become a captain and play NCAA level sports鈥β�

join the debate team and college bowl team.聽

Also, there鈥檚 a big audience of聽 students, faculty, and staff鈥β�

Where you can pitch your聽 business idea at Bison Tank聽

Work with over 100 departments聽 with deaf leaders and become one鈥β�

Is that all we have? No! We have聽 a lot of students from all over,聽聽

where you can make friends and聽 connect – even at 2 in the morning!聽

Here at 91福利导航, we belong.聽聽

Connecting with empathy聽 means that we can influence鈥β�

Fully understand and learn聽 from each other to grow.聽

Through this, we learn to problem solve,聽聽

but that only comes with the full academic聽 experience at 91福利导航.聽

No matter where you are now, no聽 matter your identity – signing,聽聽

mainstreamed, deaf school – you聽 will learn your way. I know I have!

Hey! My name is Warren Snipe.

Everyone calls me WAWA.

I remember when I first came to 91福利导航,

I didn’t know sign language.

At that time, there was a program called NSP: New Signers Program.

Now it’s called JumpStart.

Looking back, the impact was incredible.

I learned so much about Deaf culture, about myself.

I really grew in my mind and heart. Yeah!

I learned so much about myself as a Deaf person.

With signed communication, I never felt left out.

I felt included.

Without that program, I would not be the person I am today.
