On Friday, September 30, Gallaudet鈥檚 Office of Research hosted an event honoring faculty and staff who have current federal grants. Provost Dr. Khadijat K. Rashid, 鈥90; Dr. Paige Franklin, 鈥91, Interim Dean of the Faculty, and each School Director praised 40 researchers for their contributions to the university, their respective fields, and the Deaf community.
Projects recognized represent a wide range of disciplines, from theater to linguistics, and astronomy to interpretation. The breadth of this work helps Gallaudet extend its impact globally. 鈥淚 have so much respect and admiration for the researchers recognized here today 鈥 few people in the world are doing the kind of projects happening here at Gallaudet,鈥 said Neerja Vasishta, Research Development Manager, Office of Research.聽Gallaudet faculty and staff submitted 37 grant proposals for Fiscal Year 2023, which has already translated into $1.2 million in new funding. The majority of proposals are still awaiting review, and could bring millions more to campus.聽Grants frequently build in ways to support students, Vasishta added. Examples include mentoring programs, summer camps, and research experiences, such as fieldwork in the Chesapeake Bay. Funding also covers new equipment and technologies that students can then take advantage of. 鈥淭his is laying the groundwork for future possibilities,鈥 she explained.Over the next few months, the Office of Research will be highlighting project leaders on their .
