Washingtonian Magazine readers have chosen Mozzeria as the best pizza restaurant in the Washington metropolitan area. Mozzeria was founded by Melody Tsai Stein, E-’96, and Russell Stein, ‘95, in 2011 in San Francisco, and became an overnight culinary sensation. They later added a 25-foot trolley that still makes the rounds of the Bay Area. The San Francisco location has closed, but the Washington, D.C. location opened in 2020 at 1300 H Street NE. This location has thrived, and has become a must-visit destination for alumni, as well as for local diners throughout the area.

According to its , “Mozzeria was created with the goal in providing customers a welcoming, memorable, and visual environment to experience Deaf culture while working to increase career placement opportunities for Deaf people. Mozzeria is proud to be a place where our employees can demonstrate their talent and feel a shared sense of belonging while serving delicious pizza and cuisine inspired from the Campania region in Italy to our customers!” Today, Mozzeria is a joint venture of CSD and its Social Venture Fund.

Mozzeria’s selection appears in the June 2023 edition of Washingtonian. Runners-up in Reader Pick voting this year were Andy’s, Boogy & Peel, Ramona’s Pizza Garden, Slice & Pie, and Pupatella.

Congratulations!
